Homemade Ice Cream!

Over at the Pioneer Woman Cooks, there is a recipe for homemade blackberry ice cream! Yum, but her commentary throughout the recipe got me thinking about last weekend. We had a BBQ at my brothers house on Saturday night, after a memorial mass for my Dad at Holy Spirit. It was really great! My brother had invited all of our cousins and my Uncle Don to the BBQ after mass. We had just seen them last weekend for Uncle Don's 80th birthday party. I'm losing my train of thought . . .

back to the ice cream! My sister-in-law, Michelle had all the kids crank the "old fashioned" ice cream maker. It was so reminescent of my childhood. I have so many memories of cranking the ice cream maker with my Uncle Jim up at the farm on Rush Lake with all the crazy relatives in my Grandma's family! (someday, I'll dig out some of those old pictures and a scanner!)
So, here's photos of everyone getting involved with cranking the ice cream! Much more fun than simply plugging in some fancy deal from your local Wal-Marts.
There's Michelle pouring all the ingredients into the ice cream maker.

Big cousin Nick helped all the "littles" with their turn at the crank. They had so much fun!

Katie wasn't in on the cranking, she was too busy showing the kids how to juggle! It was pretty impressive, she has it mastered.

Emily and juggling, not so much!

but we had a great time at the party! Thanks Uncle Joe, Auntie Michelle and Katie!
