Holly Hassle Parade
We headed downtown Minneapolis the weekend before Christmas to see the Holidazzle Parade. It was bitter cold, but the kids still had fun!
Emily's Sixth Birthday!
Emily turned six, yes six! We had a birthday party for her at the St. Francis Bowling Center with her family and friends from school. It was so much fun!
She received so many great gifts. A couple of her favorites are the little Christmas Tree that is she put in her bedroom and the box of girly clothes from Auntil M (and family).

A Visit with Santa
We went to Brunch with Santa at the University Club the first weekend of December.
Grandma gave Emily this cute dress coat for her birthday and so there was some posing in front of the decorations.
Getting Louie to put on some nice clothes (that didn't have Star Wars or a Super Hero on it) has become quite a chore lately. I have to remind him that he won't have nice pictures in his scrapbook if he doesn't look nice.

After brunch, we went into meet Santa.
Louie told Santa that he wants a Millenium Falcon, Emily told him that she wants a car? A car....
Grandma gave Emily this cute dress coat for her birthday and so there was some posing in front of the decorations.

Our Christmas Tree
We put up out Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. Thanks to this little gadget: The Light Keeper Pro!
I bought our Christmas tree at Menards when Emily was one. It was $70 and it is perfect for our house. Tall, slim and lots of lights. We haven't had any problems with the lights since day 1. This year, we got it put together and there were 3 strings of lights out. I did NOT want to buy a new tree.
I ran to Menards and grabbed the gadget and voila, it was like magic....the strings were lit up and the tree was good as new.
The next morning, Emily and Louie were so surprised that the tree was out, ready and working....I told them that the Christmas Tree Fairy came and got it all ready for them to decorate!
The both went straight to work and hung their ornaments. Each ornament had a couple questions "Who gave me this one and when did I get it?"
Emily got this ornament from my Godmother as a baby gift when she was born.

Louie got this ornament for a Baptism gift (and I don't recall who it is from, the list is in the attic).
And this beauty, I got it from my Grandma for my first Christmas in 1967. It has been on our tree from that first year. Even though it is a one eyed creature, I love it!
Here's the finished product and I think it looks lovely!

Trick or Treat!
Trick or treat! What a fun Halloween Emily and Louie had this year. So much trick or treating and celebrating, it was crazy! We started out the festivities by trick or treating at Lunds on Thursday evening, score! On Friday, Louie had his costume party at school, the kids were so cute in their costumes and really enjoyed seeing each of the other costumes. Saturday, there was Trick or Treat Street at the YMCA after swimming lessons and then Trick or Treating at the Highland Village Shopping Center. We did Highland with Emily's friend, Margaret, she's from her preschool last year. They had so much fun and I didn't take any pictures!
Saturday night, we went to a costume party at my friend Kim's house. Lots of fun (again, no pictures - on my camera)
Finally, Sunday was the big day! We got Jack-o-Lantern pizza for dinner and then got dressed up and headed out at 5:30. Batman had a blast and loved showing off his muscles and 6 pack abs!
Snow White could hardly wait to run door to door....standing for photos was painful for these two!
Finally, it was time to head out...."Come on, Mom!"
There is a family up the street that really enjoys carving pumpkins....

French Toast
The other day, I went to Lunds to grab a few quick things and came across a loaf of Texas Toast. I love Texas Toast. It makes great grilled cheese sandwiches, but my favorite thing with Texas Toast is French Toast. Imagine that French Toast made with Texas Toast, is that wrong?
Anyhow, both Emily and Louie wanted to help. I got out the eggs and the bowl, turned around to grab the bread and they started right in on cracking the eggs.
I planned to make the whole loaf, so they got to crack LOTS of eggs! No shells in there either! Such good helpers!
The French Toast was delicious and because we made the whole loaf, we have all this left for quick breakfasts during the week. Just pop it into the toaster. YUM!
A couple people asked what recipe I used....I never use a recipe. But here's how I make it.
Mind you, it made 15-16 slices.
1 loaf of Texas Toast
10 eggs
1/2 -3/4 cups cream (I normally use milk, but had cream in the fridge, so it would be a crime to NOT use it)
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of fresh grated nutmeg
1/4 cup maple syrup (not the Aunt Jemima crap, real maple syrup...just a hint: Trader Joe's has the BEST price on a big jug of it....No high fructose corn syrup.)
3-4 tbsp melted butter (or Pam spray if you're not into butter)
Combine all the ingredients (minus the bread) in a deep bowl, I use a souffle dish because I don't make souffle and it just sits in the cupboard abandoned and unused.) Mix really well (another really GREAT use for the immersion blender, if you have one) with a hand mixer.
Warm your griddle to a medium temp and brush with melted butter. Add the bread to the egg mixture, one slice at a time. Turn it over and let it soak for a few seconds to absorb the egg. Place the bread on the griddle. Let it cook for a minute or two, check to make sure it's not getting too brown. Adjust the temp accordingly. Turn over and let it cook for another 2 minutes. You want to leave it on the griddle long enough to make sure that the egg cooks through the bread. Letting it soak gives it the light fluffiness of restaurant toast. So delicious!
Note: I'm HORRIBLE with the griddle, but getting better now that we have our new stove. I'm impatient and always turn the heat up too high and burn anything that is on it - grilled cheese in particular. I've been using the big, double wide electric griddle we got for a wedding gift and never had room to use it. Now we can with our glass topped stove and it's a snap to make pancakes, french toast, etc. Don't turn the heat up too high, but don't leave it too low or the egg won't cook in the center..... just keep an eye on it.
The maple syrup is an ingredient that I've used ever since I worked in the coffee shop at Midway Hospital in highschool. We used to use syrup instead of adding sugar. It mixes in easier and it gives a great flavor. Enjoy!

Blogger blahs
It seems that everywhere in the blogging world, everyone seems to be in a slump and suffering from the blahhhhhs. I am no exception to that! Not sure why, just not feeling it!
But a post isn't a post without a picture or two....
A couple pictures from our trip to Target Field on Labor Day. I rented a wide angle lens, just for fun. It poured rain for a good chunk of the game; thankfully, just before it rained, we ran up to the Town Ball Tavern to grab a bite to eat and ended up spending several innings, warm and dry!
